Tresor Records is proud to announce the reissue of «Dark Territory», the debut LP from the legendary Detroit collective Scan 7, originally released in 1996. *The term DAT (Digital Audio Tape) refers to a digital tape format introduced in the 1980s, used for high-quality recording. It offers a higher dynamic range than traditional analog formats, and is commonly used by professional studios for mastering and archiving recordings. In the case of the reissue of “Dark Territory,” the original recordings were remastered from this format, allowing for improved sound quality for the new LP version.

Scan 7, part of the influential family of Underground Resistance, burst onto the scene in the mid-90s with a series of 12”s loaded with their signature machine funk and a minimalist style that stands out for its control and patience. This ability to create tension and release energy at just the right moment is a quality that Scan 7 has honed over the years, and it shines through clearly in «Dark Territory». The reissue includes songs classics as «Unusual Channel», mixed by the legendary Blake Baxter, and the forceful «VII», which now come to life with the remastered version of Grinser.

«Dark Territory» not only feels relevant in the present, but also as a roadmap to the future of techno. The visionary words of the collective's leader, Trackmaster Lou, in the original notes of the album they sum it up perfectly: «I hope you enjoy my records in the future to come»Almost 30 years later, that promise remains intact.

In addition to the vinyl reissue with updated art, Tresor Records celebrates this release with exclusive snippets from Scan 7's live performance at Kraftwerk Berlin, captured during the Tresor 31 Festival in 2022, filmed on a night vision camera TX-141.

This reissue of «Dark Territory» It is a unique opportunity to rediscover a fundamental album in the history of Detroit techno, which continues to resonate with the same force as its debut almost three decades ago.
