Exclusive interview with Feisfois

The Asturian DJ and producer reflects on his album Logistic Lungs, the future of Alpheratz Records and his love for physical formats

Today we return to Asturias, Spain, to have a chat with the producer and DJ Feisfois. This Spanish artist, influenced by the first sounds 90's techno, used his first savings to buy his first turntables and vinyls. He was always curious about production from the beginning, but never without getting down to work. In 2021 he decided to create his own label, Alpheratz Records, where he publishes his most personal works without neglecting other works on various labels.

Today we delve into its first vinyl release for his label Alpheratz Records, Logistic Lungs, an album between Feisfois and Hugo Rolan, released on November 4, 2024This limited edition vinyl includes four tracks in its physical edition and two additional tracks in the digital version.

Feisfois and Hugo Rolan have created an album that not only celebrates techno as a genre, but also challenges it to evolve. Hypnotic and futuristic sounds without losing the essence that these two artists usually deliver. The quality of the sound on vinyl adds an extra layer of warmth and authenticity, making this a must-have release for techno lovers and vinyl collectors alike.

These Asturian artists have managed to create a work that not only invites you to the dance floor, but also offers a rich and immersive listening experience for the most purist listeners.

This is the first release from Alpheratz Records, Logistic Lungs, an album in vinyl and digital format, shared with the Spanish artist Hugo Rolan. How did the collaboration between you to create this album come about?

When we start with the idea of making the vinyl together, there can always be some doubts, but with Hugo everything is easier; there was a willingness from the very beginning.

From the day I mentioned releasing a joint vinyl and, after calling me “crazy” several times because of the difficulties of vinyl, he kindly agreed to make two tracks that would fit into the project.

Working with Hugo is very easy. We have been doing things together for many years, sharing projects and opinions. He is always the first to listen to my music. Although we have never released anything together, we have always been very close. There are weeks when we talk every day and review the world of techno.

Could you tell us about the production and recording of the vinyl?

This process was a little different from all the others. When you know you're going to press on vinyl, it's like you have the feeling of searching a little harder than usual. That's when Hugo took over and started sending me jobs until I found the right thing for the vinyl.

Looking a little deeper into the album, we'd like you to tell us about the concept and narrative behind it. Logistic Lungs.

On side A of the vinyl you offer us re-issues of your tracks Cerastes and Remnant. What changes or improvements did you introduce in these re-releases?

Logistic Lungs was born, at first, to bring together Hugo, Cándido (another passionate about our thing) and me, where the three of us did sessions together. Firstly, to vinyl in the famous Technora and with the culmination of an all night long in Lanna ClubFrom that union I wanted to keep the good memories and take the name for this joint vinyl. We gave it a name that makes us very excited because of everything that is behind it (with permission from our dear Cándido, hahaha).

The tracks Cerastes and Remnant have been remixed on the reissues, mainly to give them a bit more body and also more time. Both are a minute longer than on the first digital release, mainly intended to make longer mixes.

On the B-side, Hugo Rolán presents us with Inconsciencia Futura and Experimento Mental. What role do their tracks play in the structure of the vinyl?

The idea of including Hugo on the album was clear from the beginning. His contribution was necessary for what we had in mind. If you listen to it, there is a harder part, which is side A, with two cuts of mine. The concept of the vinyl was to end the album with hypnotic sounds, more “sci-fi”, which is the field that Hugo dominates.

I chose these two cuts from all the ones he sent me and I think they work really well with my two tracks. They make the album a good exercise in timeless techno.

What is your favorite track from the album?

Cerastes It has marked a before and after for me as a producer. That is perhaps why I needed to release it physically. It has been played in iconic clubs such as Berghain or Tresor in Berlin. When you stop and think that there are people somewhere in the world listening to your music, it is indescribable.

How do you see the evolution of vinyl as a format in the current music industry?

It seems that the physical format is back in fashion. Personally, I love it. My first savings were to buy some turntables, a table and some vinyl records. I was alone, with no one to influence me, isolated in a small town in Asturias and without friends who shared this strange musical taste.

I am sure that vinyl is moving forward. Many labels are joining the vinyl trend and there are more and more people at parties with “plastics”. I love seeing young people getting interested in vinyl, but as a record label owner, I have to say that there are many difficulties in offsetting the costs of releasing it.

This album is released on your own label, Alpheratz Records. Label created in 2021, where you have been publishing high-caliber music of your own, also with some collaborations.

Regarding Alpheratz Records, what motivated you to create your own label and what vision do you have for Alpheratz Records?

Creating your own label is a continuous odyssey. In this case, it arose from the desire to publish my productions without ties. I had been thinking for a long time about what to do and I decided to create my own label so as not to depend on third parties.

I have also relied on friends like Hugo, in this case, and Jheal Bashta, with whom I share reference number nine in digital. He has always helped me from day one and was key when at the beginning I didn't even know where to start.

Alpheratz Records It was created with the idea of releasing my productions without fear of not being liked, only relying on the people at Teorema Estudio for the covers and the mastering by Carlos Koschitzky, who was always willing to improve the mix and give it his excellent mastering touch.

I would like to release more music from artists that I like, real gems. But I don't want to saturate the label with other artists; I prefer to be faithful to the beginnings.

What are the upcoming plans and releases you have in mind for Alpheratz Records?

Since the next reference is number 10, if all goes well, we have prepared a very select Various Artists, surrounded by friends, influences and personal tastes. Those in charge of playing the music will be A4, David Reina, Hugo Rolan, Whoismarce and myself.

We almost have everything to show the first samples of this GOES, that I am sure will not leave anyone indifferent.

As an artist, how would you describe your evolution and development throughout your career?

Interesting question. Feisfois is already like a part of me. It all started as a random name, without any thought or explanation. Now, thinking about it, I am grateful for all the journey this name has taken. I thank Feisfois for giving me the opportunity to meet so many people that, without having entered the world of techno, I would not have met.

I think Feisfois' evolution has been and will continue to be faithful to its non-existent principles, hehe. I will always publish what I like.

Regarding your references, which artists have most influenced your professional development and why?

After so many years, there are several very marked influences. The main one would be Oscar Mulero as DJ and Reeko as producer, obviously with its nuances. I think Oscar is unbeatable as a DJ. He is perfection in the booth; he transmits only with his hands on the table. I could watch and listen to him for hours, as long as my body can take it.

As a producer, Reeko, perhaps more so the one from a few years ago, has been a great inspiration for my beginnings.
