Divided Lines: Loopaina Records' new release and their showcase at Bridge_48 (Barcelona, Spain)
Lakej and Biorc present Divided Lines, a 12” vinyl release through the seal Loopaina RecordsThis vinyl captures the unique essence of both artists, combining deep and enveloping sound textures that make each track an immersive journey.
Despite coming from different geographical contexts, both artists share a common vision within music.
Lakej, Swedish DJ and producer, debuted with the EP Structural Cohesion in Grey Report, he Adriana Lopez's stamp, establishing a sonic identity that led him to found Solitär. His style is distinguished by complex rhythms, meticulous attention to detail, and a futuristic atmosphere. He has released music on Semantics, NON Series, Soma, Mord and recently, on Loopaina Records.
Biorc, DJ and producer from Madrid, is the owner together with his partner Ethnic Meeting's Isgang and Null Warp RecordingsWith two albums and ten EPs, he has published in Newrhythmic Recs, Illegal Alien, Loopaina Records and Diffuse Reality, among others. His dark, hypnotic techno, with precise sound design and immersive mixes, has established him as an emerging figure in the underground scene.
JDRM: You are releasing Divided Lines, a 12” vinyl release that includes two original tracks and two remixes. The digital version also features two bonus tracks. It’s not common to see vinyl releases structured this way, as a collaborative effort between two artists. How did the idea of working together for this release come about?
Biorc: In this case, it was Loopaina Records itself that made the proposal. For me, Lakej was already a very inspiring artist, so I accepted without thinking twice.
Lakej: I had no doubt, I wanted to be part of this. Biorc is a artist whom I have been following and have been increasingly impressed by his work.
JDRM: In a collaboration like this, it's natural for differences to arise. How do you resolve them to ensure that the end result reflects both of your visions?
Lakej: There was never any problem. I trust Biorc's work and I want his ideas to shine through in his remix. As for my remix of his track, it all came together pretty quickly as he sent me some really good stems to work with.
Biorc: In my case, I have always had in mind to maintain my sound but respecting much of the material I received from Lakej. In this way, it is easier to maintain a solid line to work the whole thing. On the other hand, at the time of knowing that we were going to collaborate together on the album, we got in touch to send each other different options and proposals from both parties to shape the final result.
JDRM: Lakej, on Side A you present us with “Readjustment”, with a solid rhythmic structure and an enveloping atmosphere. On Side B, you remix Biorc’s “Null Particle”, adding more rhythmic intensity and enriching its sonic texture.
Biorc, on side A you present “Null Particle”, a minimalist piece with an evolving bass line and subtle melodic elements. On side B, you reinterpret “Readjustment” with more complex rhythms and additional layers.
What can you tell us about the creative process of your contribution?
Lakej: I'm all about trying things out and experimenting with processing in Ableton. When something starts to sound interesting, I try to build the rest of the track around that idea.
Biorc: As for “Null Particle,” the first thing I recorded was that high-pitched line that repeats throughout the track. From there, I built up the rest of the elements, like the atmospheres that appear in the background or the low end. With “Readjustment,” I chose to work in the same way: I started by modifying the bassline of Lakej’s track a bit by adding extra layers, and then I built up the rest of the elements that surround it. Also, since “Null Particle” is so linear and mental, in the remix I wanted to be a bit more rhythmic and bring in some movement.
JDRM: What do you hope listeners will experience when listening to “Divided Lines”?
Biorc: Well, I think the name of the album itself answers the question. What the listener can hear are two clear lines of sound that come together in a single work.
Lakej: I hope you feel the energy of this EP and that the songs work well on the dance floor.
JDRM: What were your first musical influences that led you to become producers?
Lakej: There were many influences that got me into production, but one of the most important was the attraction to hardware, especially eurorack. Since then, I have been working more within the digital environment, but hardware remains a great source of inspiration and experimentation for me.
Biorc: For me, there have been many artists, labels and producers that have influenced me. My influence is focused a lot on established artists but also on more current techno.
JDRM: How do you view the option of releasing music on vinyl in an era dominated by digital formats?
Biorc: It's a great opportunity. The fact that I've released a work on vinyl makes the album very special for me, and it's also my first physical release. Nowadays, all music is consumed very quickly: you release an EP and it immediately seems to have taken a backseat... However, by doing it on vinyl, I feel that the work will last much longer, it has more weight.
Lakej: Releasing on vinyl is something really special these days. I guess it’s a bit of a materialistic view, but because the process of making music is so abstract, having a 12” with your creation on it gives it a special meaning.
JDRM: Next Saturday, February 15th, Loopaina Records will celebrate its third anniversary at Bridge_48, Barcelona. This will be the official presentation event of «Divided Lines», and you will share the stage with artists STNDRD and Drucal.
What does it mean to you to be part of this event?
Biorc: It's something very special. Being able to be part of this whole launch has been special from the beginning, but putting the finishing touches on it with this event is exciting. I'm really looking forward to being there with the guys from Loopaina, Lakej, STNDRD, Drucal and, of course, all the people who come to the event to be with us.
Lakej: For me, being invited to this showcase is great. I'm really excited to see everyone and meet up with a lot of friends in Barcelona. The personal connection through music is what I enjoy the most. I'm planning something special and will include some unreleased gems straight from the studio.
JDRM: What future projects do you have in mind? And what advice would you give to emerging producers looking to find their own sound?
Lakej: There are a lot of projects in the pipeline throughout 2025, including my own label, Solitär, so in terms of production it will be a very exciting year for me.
My advice to emerging producers is to trust their taste and work until something sounds good. The key is to enjoy the process, because when you do, the result matters less and creativity flows better.
Biorc: In the coming months I'll be releasing music on Selected Records and Retórica, participating in some VAs, and I'm working on a new LP for this year.
As a tip, I would say that to find your own sound I recommend not rushing, experimenting with the available tools and enjoying the process.
I also want to thank Loopaina Records for their great work in the release, communication and effort. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this.
