AUMATRA Vol. 1: The Tactile Edge of Functional Hypnosis

AUMATRA Vol. 1: The Tactile Edge of Functional Hypnosis

Fanzine Records continues to consolidate its artistic vision with AUMATRA Vol. 1. Far from being a simple compilation, this various artists release unfolds as a statement of intent where every detail matters: from the careful selection of producers to the way the tracks flow across the vinyl, and a visual identity that doesn’t just accompany the sound but amplifies it.

From the Galician underground, the label reaffirms its commitment to raw, hypnotic and uncompromising techno, assembling five distinct voices that converse coherently within a shared aesthetic framework.

The release, scheduled for February 20, will be available both digitally and physically on Bandcamp. The 12″ edition deserves special mention: alongside the standard black, it comes in a carefully crafted limited Marble Red/Black pressing, a combination that elevates the record from a mere format to an object of desire.

The artwork by Burgalego works as a visual extension of the sound — abstract, direct and sharply defined — while mastering by Human Mastering Studio ensures the perfect balance between low-end pressure and high-frequency clarity, delivering a powerful and functional club-ready cut.

Side A: Control, tension and structure

Side A opens with Gareth Wild – The Box, a sober and restrained cut that sets the tone from the very first hit. Percussive, dense and stripped of excess, it conveys a sense of martial control.

Next comes Pyramidal Decode – Cursor, introducing a more cerebral and textural dimension while maintaining a latent tension that hooks the listener without falling into predictability. Functional hypnosis, precisely dosed with the finesse the Italian producer is known for.

Closing the side, Michel Lauriola – Never Left delivers a more immersive and nuanced approach. The rhythm breathes, layers intertwine and the progression unfolds with understated elegance, acting as a natural bridge between mechanical intensity and emotional depth.

Side B: Catharsis, shadow and confrontation

Flipping the record, Mist Gasp – Finale welcomes us with a title that says it all. The Galician duo steps aside from convention with a distinct rhythmic structure built around a galloping cadence, generating hypnotic momentum and ritualistic density. It’s a constant forward drive, designed for those moments when the dancefloor forgets the clock, sinks into collective trance, and darkness becomes almost tangible.

The closing track, Yeiem – Dogmas, is without doubt the most introspective and mental piece of the release. Mastering the art of restraint, its pauses are not absences but tools, amplifying an overwhelming atmospheric weight. A remarkable ending to an album that feels, from the very first listen, like an essential collector’s piece.

AUMATRA Vol. 1 proves that diversity and coherence are not opposites. Fanzine Records demonstrates a refined curatorial sense, crafting a record that feels like an organic whole rather than a sum of disconnected tracks.

A release with a distinct identity, executed with enviable clarity and destined to become a staple in the record bags of those who understand techno as both a physical and mental experience. From the Galician underground, Fanzine Records doesn’t raise its voice — it strikes with precision.
