Niels Orens – Never Again (OFFC03): sonic introspection through alienation, texture and restrained tension

A language shaped through isolation

In a landscape where much of electronic music remains driven by immediate dancefloor impact, the new EP from Niels Orens moves in the opposite direction: into a space where tension is not resolved, but sustained.

Never Again (OFFC03), released via Off Corner Records, will be available on April 17, 2026, in both digital and vinyl formats. It inhabits a territory where sonic narrative is built through restraint, detail, and a sensitivity shaped by isolation.

Between the acoustic and the electronic

Orens operates at the intersection of acoustic instrumentation and immersive electronic sound design, developing compositions that prioritize atmosphere, space, and emotional weight over traditional structures.

This EP expands on the direction initiated in slow night/s, pushing further into rhythmic fragmentation and textural exploration. Fractured breakbeats, distorted layers, and a constant low-end pressure coexist with fragile melodic moments that emerge almost spectrally.

Within this unstable balance, echoes can be found that recall the emotional rawness of Yves Tumor, the intimacy of Burial, or the exploratory approach of James Holden — yet Never Again maintains a distinct identity rooted in sustained tension.

Rhythm, space and dissolution

Across its six tracks — Remaining, Here, too?, Should Feel Bad, Burned Twice, Enemy and Ruin Happens — the EP moves between moments of rhythmic propulsion and more suspended states, where time seems to dissolve.

There is no clear progression toward a climax. Instead, each piece operates as a fragment of a shared emotional state: an exploration of disconnection, repetition, and the act of remaining within discomfort.

A narrative without resolution

“This EP came out of a period of isolation and boredom, where making music felt like the only way to process everything. It’s about alienation, being fully alone, and the quiet violence of your own thoughts; but also about staying present inside that. It’s not about resolution, it’s about remaining inside the discomfort.”
