Cecilia Tosh — Secrets EP (Denude): atmosphere, narrative and precision in contemporary techno
Cecilia Tosh makes her debut on Denude with Secrets EP, a techno release that explores tension, space and narrative through an intimate yet club-oriented approach.
There are artists who build through accumulation, and others through restraint. With Secrets EP, her debut on Denude, Cecilia Tosh clearly belongs to the latter.

Based in Berlin and a resident at Tresor, Tosh brings into this EP a sensibility shaped by long-form sets, where time, space and tension are not just tools, but a language. This approach defines a release that balances atmosphere, technical precision and dancefloor functionality.
Within this context, Denude continues to consolidate an editorial direction focused on detail and depth, embracing a vision of techno where sonic narrative carries as much weight as its application in the club. Secrets EP fits naturally into this framework as a coherent and carefully constructed release.
A personal process translated into sound
Beyond its functional dimension, Secrets EP emerges from a deeply personal process. The project was written after a heavy breakup, during a period of emotional reconstruction where close relationships played a key role.
“Secrets was written after a heavy breakup, at a time when I was slowly finding my footing again. I set up my studio in my sister’s atelier, spending long nights writing music.”
During this time, the act of producing became a form of emotional channeling:
“The process became therapy — emotions and frequencies surfaced that I couldn’t put into words.”
This context translates directly into the sound of the EP. The opening track, Secrets, introduces a restrained and immersive atmosphere, built around a hypnotic arpeggio and a patient progression that sets the tone for the entire release.
From weight to lightness
The second track, XY Paper Planes, shifts the focus toward the dancefloor without breaking the EP’s internal coherence. Written months later, it reflects a lighter moment within the creative process:
“Paper Planes followed a few months later, in my first apartment. By then, things were unfolding more easily and felt lighter.”
The result is a more driven composition, where dreamy pads and refined sound design create a sense of controlled euphoria, positioning it as one of the central moments of the EP.
Space, transition and tension
On the B side, Damp The Danger explores a more abstract territory. Positioned between ambient and techno, the track unfolds through a soft 4/4 pulse, evolving textures and a sense of suspended movement.
Its origin is tied to a specific moment in Tosh’s journey:
“Damp the Danger was written after an East European tour, at the airport… realizing that I was once again looking forward to returning home.”
This sense of transition is embedded in the structure itself, where motion is not driven by urgency, but by a feeling of displacement and return.
The EP closes with a remix by Bjarki, who reinterprets the original material through a dub-informed and minimal approach:
“Bjarki’s reinterpretation enriches the EP with added complexity and a distinctive sense of storytelling.”
A record of transformation
Taken as a whole, Secrets EP functions as a sonic document of personal transition:
“With this release, I’m sharing an intimate sonic record of a personal transition — from heaviness with a hint of hope, to rising, and back to a place of quiet joy.”
Rather than seeking immediate impact, the EP is defined by coherence and intention. A body of work where emotional depth is not explicitly stated, but embedded in every sonic decision. More than a debut, Secrets EP positions Cecilia Tosh as an artist with a clear voice within contemporary techno.
